Our essential question this quarter is "What are patterns in our daily life?" We have noticed many patterns throughout our Economics Unit. In advisory, my class has been looking at another pattern-the Stock Market. Students are calculating their loss/profit and graphing their progress. I am using this great resource. To explain the Stock Market, I asked a retired business teacher to speak to the class-MY DAD! He did a great job! Thank you, Mr. Birie!
This past week was Computer Science Week. The students used code.org, Made with Code, Scratch, and Code Combat to improve their coding skills.
In math class, we transitioned from plotting fractions and mixed numbers on the number line to creating fractional line plots and analyzing the data. Students completed a FACEing Math assignment. It was a fun way to practice line plots!
We have one week of school left before Winter Break and it is going to be crazy-busy! Between Common Assessments, the end of the quarter, and Gallery Hop we are going to have a jam-packed five days! Let's make it great! Have a STEMtastic week everyone!!
After our five day vacation, we came back to school with a vengeance! In math, we started using our Fraction Kits to connect GCF & LCM to models. We also compared and ordered fractions using the kits. I like to transition from the kits to number lines since they are more practical. I found this amazing resource here.
In Social Studies, we finished up our Economics Unit with The International Trading Game. In short, each country's goal was to make money by creating shapes, but not every country had the resources they needed. Students had a blast trading, negotiating, and collaborating! It was a fabulous and fun way for students to understand trade, interdependence, specialization, competition, and other Econ terms.
We also had DARE Graduation this week. Magician Stephen Knight was the entertainment. He did an amazing job combining entertainment, magic, and a message of positive decision making. Congratulations to all our DARE graduates!
