Happy Labor Day STEMtastic Friends! This week, the fifth graders learned about the coordinate plane. We started off the standard by making a foldable that the students glued into their interactive notebooks.
Then, the students practiced plotting points by playing either Sink Cap'n K or Coordinate Plane Hangman. Sink Cap'n K was a free resource I found on "For the Love of Teaching Math" blog. Coordinate Plane Hangman was an amazing game I found in The Middle School Mathematician. I think they had fun learning!
We ended the week with students creating Treasure Maps. They received a gold chocolate coin when they completed their coordinate plane. This resource came from "Creative Learning Solutions" on TPT. Click Here to buy a copy.
The students started creating Autobiography Maps this week in Social Studies. They had full creativity on this project as long as they meet the checklist requirements. Below is the checklist I created:
Finally, during Advisory, the students began brainstorming ideas for the Great Cardboard Challenge. Watch this video to learn all about it. The ideas the students have so far are so super creative!!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
