We started one of our biggest math standards this week: Fractions. To introduce this topic, I gave each student a chocolate bar, then we worked through the slides on Chocolate Fractions using our delicious manipulatives. I think the students really enjoyed the yummy lesson and now truly understand the meaning of a fraction compared to a whole.
Vocabulary is so important in any subject area. I have a magnetic word wall so I can adjust the words throughout the year. Students have vocabulary notebooks where they record the words and definitions and I refer to the vocabulary daily. We also play games with our word wall. My favorite is creatively named "Word Wall Game." One student chooses a word from the word wall and holds it above a second student's head. This student chooses people who give him/her clues about the word so it can be guessed. The students love this game!
Our Random Act of Kindness this month is "Be Thankful." Each time the students share out or I catch them doing the RAK for the month, I add a leaf to our tree! I thought it might be fun to create a video we can share with our friends and family. Check it out! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Relax, have fun, and be safe!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
